The split digraph works by using an 'e' after the initial vowel to change the sound of the vowel.. A digraph is made up of two vowels that join together to make a sound: 'oa', 'ue', 'ee', and 'oe' for example. A split digraph is a digraph that has been split by a consonant. Our split digraph sounds are 'a_e', i_e', o_e', e_e', and 'u_e'. There's a nice little rhyme that you can use with your students to help.
